Bud_man
My steering is getting really sloppy in my 2000 Bayfisher 16. Anyone know the cable length I need to get on new steering system? Thanks, Bud
HewesYourDaddy
Mines doing the same on my '96. I think the answer is to get hydraulic steering for about $
Bud_man
Yeah, that hydraulic is nice, but about $300 more than a no feedback cable system. Then again, at least I wouldn't have to pull the motor to switch it out. Decisions, decisions.
HewesYourDaddy
Not a bad price for a new system. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEASTAR-SOLUTIONS-BAYSTAR-Hydraulic-Steering-Kit-HK4200A-3-/181454833752?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item2a3f8d0858&vxp=mtr I found someone online that sold new "take off" units that he removed for some reason or the other. They were about $100 cheaper.
Bud_man
I spoke with the nice folks at MHP today. Here are the cable rigging details for the 2000 Bayfisher 16: Steering Cable: 12' Teleflex 20120-12 Control Cables: 14' Teleflex 21176-14 Cheers, Bud
Sallow Minded
Dose this specific system fit 2002 redfisher 16 90 2-stroke. How do I know what system fits? If so I found it a little cheaper. http://www.starmarinedepot.com/teleflex-hk4200-baystar-compact-steering.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAo8emBRCX_OqU4qek6y8SJACzgf8f0vSFZn6-R6AU4FcfmhYDmJWvRQ26sSkoY7Osf3zAMhoCR6Dw_wcB
Traffic
The few hundred to upgrade to hydraulic is worth it in my opinion. I just did it on my Redfisher 16. The cable has to make a very sharp turn when it leaves the console and goes below deck. As it ages it becomes a binding point. Below is my cable at ten years old. It froze suddenly one day and I almost ran up onto a canal bank because of it.
