Whiskeytrain
I have a 2001 hewes bayfisher and have noticed slightly more water in the hull after a days trip, though not enough to trigger the bilge. I have read the side thru hull scuppers have been a way for water to get in. I looked inside of the scuppers today and it seemed the 5200 sealing it is starting to peel away creating gaps. Any advice for re applying 5200 to these areas? Just unscrew the screws and remove the scupper plate prior to applying the 5200? thank you for any advice!u

Yep, that's how I would do it.... Just reapply the 5200 to the screws to insure it seals. also, are you using plugs when on the water (from the inside-obviously). dc
Whiskeytrain
Thank you, I haven’t used the plugs in a long while.
fin-addict
If it’s peeling may not be 5200. Just remove the clam shell vent, clean area and rebed and screw down. Suggest not using 5200, overkill for sure. 😀👍
smilemaker
The problem with this situation is you have two pieces of fiberglass close together with both flexing. I don't know of any fitting made to fix the problem. Since they are so close maybe a standard thru hull with a thick rubber gasket between the glass would work. Other than that it looks like 5200 to try and hold them together and repeat in a few years.
fin-addict
Sorry not 5200, does not allow flex like other sealants do. JMO. They do make plastic vents like yours that will allow for some flex and bend.

Thanks for the info
jim33042
I used 5200 on my 00 Bayfisher, inside and outside.. may be overkill but it has held well. Another option might be lifeseal. Remove plate, clean off old sealant, use some denatured alcohol on area, apply new sealant and put some sealant in the screw holes as well. As I see some rust, you may want to replace the scuppers as well, while you’re at it. Once they start, there’s no stopping them. Gem-lux has a model that is a perfect fit.
