Key West Harbor/Veto Transportation Bill

Please consider writing Governor DeSantis to encourage him to veto the recently passed transportation bill that overrides the referenda passed by the citizens of Key West regarding limitations on the size of cruise ships that would be able to enter Key West harbor.  Governorron.desantis@eog.myflorida.com. Feel free to use this as a template if you like:

Dear Governor DeSantis:

Thank you for continuing to support efforts to improve water quality in Florida and to restore the Everglades.  At this time, I am writing to encourage you to veto the recently passed transportation bill that contains pre-emptive legislation regarding limitations put on cruise ships by citizen of Key West.  The voters in Key West approved 3 referenda measures to limit the size and capacity of cruise ships entering Key West harbor.  The votes were by a super majority.  This is an example of one of the most basic tenants of democracy in America.  The measures have the support of such organizations as the National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council, The Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, and the Lower Keys Guides Association.  And, the City of Key West and the Monroe County BOCC both adopted resolutions in support of the referenda.  Please veto this bill so that the water quality in and around the port of Key West will not be harmed by the presence of large cruise ships and the dredging that would be required for them to enter the harbor.

Thank you again for continuing to be a good steward of Florida’s economy and ecology.

THIS ONE DESERVES THE ATTENTION OF EVERY ANGLER, CONSERVATIONIST AND ANYONE ELSE THAT CARES ABOUT WATER QUALITY IF FLORIDA.  The Governor has shown that he will do the right thing in these areas with previous support and funding for the Everglades, standing up to the feds on Lake O issues and many other environmental issues - and this one deserves a veto..  This over grab by the legislature needs to die.  I remember when my republican party believed that "that government closest to the people governs best".  The people of the Keys know what's best for the Keys.
