Wanaflatsfish
So, My buddy Chris just took delivery of his HPX 18 - 2021 and my other partner COTO is about finished with several months of Honey Dews....so time to fish "others" boats....I've been fishing the Ghost pretty hard the last few months so with the new skiff and COTO ready to fish, I decided to take the Ghost down for 2-3 months... On Deck: 1.) Rewire the entire skiff 2.) Upgrade all the bolts, washers, etc. on the PowerPoles 3.) Conduct a 100 Hr service on the 1995 Yama-dog 4.) Look at whether I should remove the tank and replace - it appears to be the original - based upon the data on the TNT fuel tank 5.) Add some night time running lights 6.) Upgrade the stereo system 7.) finish the Rod Holders on the gunnels 8.) change out the 2 pump on the two stroke oil reserve - again, its the original 9.) reinstall the transducer on the stern and paint the stern black to cover a bunch of hole from the previous owner 10.) Install Series 31 DEKA's vs the 27's inside the console and move the house battery to the console 11.) Cut out the front of the console to allow easy access to the wiring 12.) Send in the tach and speedometer to the refurb guys for new ones 13.) clean up the console and put on either sea-deck or starboard So, it's time to get out the router and lots of my goodies..... Here's what I did today - dis-assembly of the console and wiring Batteries under the console seat REMOVED......YOU WILL NOTICE THEY SIT ON 3/4 INCH PLASTIC BOARD....I WILL REPLACE THIS.... HERE IS THE PIE HOLE EXPOSED.... TOOK APART THE CONSOLE......BEFORE...... AFTER....... HERE IS THE FRONT ACCESS PANEL.....THIS WAS A QUICK CUT TO ALLOW ME TO GET STUFF OUT TODAY...I'LL CLEAN IT ALL UP EASY ACCESS TO TAKE OFF THE HYDRAULIC HOSES.... A FEW PICS OF SOME WIRING SO I CAN REMEMBER A FEW THINGS.... TAKING APART THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY...... HERE IS THE TWO BOXES OF BOLTS, WASHER, NUTS ETC FOR THE 8 FOOT POWER POLE...I HAVE TWO SO I ORDERED A COMPLETE SET... THEY ARE ABOUT $40...BUT, MY PP'S ARE ABOUT 6 YEARS OLD AND ONE BOLT SNAPPED LAST TRIP...SO, WHY NOT??? SO, LET'S SEE WHERE THIS GOES.......LOTS TO DO...BUT, PLENTY OF TIME.... NO HURRICANES TO COME AND I HAVE LOTS OF GOOD FISHING BUDDIES TO TAKE ME ALONG SO THEY CAN STEAL MY SPOTS (LOL)..... DC
Shallowminded6
You are doing a hefty refit! If you dont want to replace tank and its the original sender, might want to do fuel sender so you dont have to get under the console when its al. back together. I am currently in the process of doing rewire on mine. Not a task I want to repeat often. What wiring are you going to use?

But now I have to strip a bunch of coating down to run wires to the bus bar and fuse block. Wouldnt advise doing it that way, it makes it more of a PIA. Sounds like you got it figured tho. gnarlydog
Sounds like a great project, looking forward to seeing the final product. I rewired my hewes least year. Most of my materials were bought from the sites below -- good prices and quick shipping. SouthernWake
I was amazed at how much crud developed and water seeped into a "closed" pump system. all pumps worked noticeably better after a clean and fresh oil.

I'm assuming it's just the degrading of the oil over time from the heat and pressure....plus they use a "green" oil...I"d thinking something like commercial aircraft or military grade would not be as affected ? Don't know...... But, yeah, it's pretty cruddy at the bottom of the plastic container. dc
FLDXT
Love it when they don't center the pie hole over the fuel tank sending unit! My 99 was the same way, made a simple 5 minute job into 2 hour job to expand that hole.

Wanaflatsfish
THANKS TO FORUM MEMBER @OUTLAW I GOT THE RECOMMENDATION TO BRING MY SKIFF TO FIBERGLASS BY DESING here in FLL Richard the owner knows his business While the tank is NOT leaking, it is 27 years old.....we verified it is the original tank and rather have a problem down the road, I decided to have the tank removal and install completed by a true professional. I originally thought about cutting out the floor myself...but, after meeting Richard, we came up with a game plan for a complete restoration.... He is going to take out the tank Replace it and shoot the entire deck with new gelcoat @ Outlaw will build the tank....we are working to get a few more gallons into the tank He will do a complete restoration on my console to bring it back to new with NO hole or screws.... Fix all the chips and screw holes I thought about trying to do the work myself, and then have to put down SEADECK, but, this way the entire skiff will be restored to like new. As part of the restoration...I decided to complete the re-wire.... It's always fun to get the box at the front door my 704 binnacle had a lot of age on it..... as well, I decided to just go new with the Tach and Speedomter.... I am also changing the out the oil tank pump and changing out the filter while the tank is out....the pump is 27 years old....so, why not for $150 or so...it's the lifeline of the skiff. parts for a service - engine fuel filter, thermostat gasket, and a set of new plugs.... Pictures of some goodies that arrived..... I also purchased a service manual...I have to say it is really detailed for the DIY'r.....worth the $80 or so....put it together with a few YouTubes and you are good to go......

I'm laying out the new battery configuration while i have the deck open and the console off..... DC

MuddyBottomBluz
Easy there Dino! All those times getting in and out of the boat on the trailer, rigging and mounting and pulling everything that needs it, getting on your back, getting off your back and all the other stuff that comes with rigging a boat, by the time it's done you will be too sore to go fishing! Wanaflatsfish
More progress today getting her ready for the beauty shop.... I bought a couple of beasts - YES - AGM 31's DEKA's - DURACELL LABEL - BATTERIES PLUS $220 WITH DISCOUNT. Hard to find them right now...i called all over south florida and no DEKA's I decided to go big....with this, I can run for two - 2.5 hours full speed according the AH of 105 - the Minnkottta runs 45 amp @ WOT. If I'm stuck in the back with motor problems...I figure I can get 6-8 miles with a following tide.....maybe more... I laid them out on the deck and I will be building a battery box....this is the foot print under the console. I am going to move the starting battery - it will be a new Interstate 27 - Deep Cycle with 160 Reserve Capacity. The DEKA is just as a place holder to see how it will fit. I laid out everything I need to put back on the skiff.....lots of goodies..... More to come...... DC
