Hewes 16 Bayfisher re-power

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First post. First Hewes. My son just picked up a 1996 Bayfisher Lappy 16. It had a 70 HP Johnson 2 Stroke on it that just scorched a piston. We have the opportunity to re-power with a 2017 E-tec 90 HP, which weighs 320lbs. Will this motor be too heavy for this boat? Thanks in advance. BTW we love the boat!

I don’t think it will be too heavy. but I would be nervous going with an etec since they just discontinued them.

I have a 16 bonefisher that I put a Yamaha F70 on and really enjoy it. It’s only 253lbs I believe

Be advised that they will honor all warranties and continue to produce replacement parts.

That e-tec will be fine for your boat.

I wouldn’t buy one unless it was heavily discounted. I doubt there are many folks lining up trying to buy the last ones in existence.
