So I'm ready for primer and paint
  3. I have a 2013 16 Hewes Redfisher with the F90 Yamaha four stroke and was inquiring as to the mounting height you may be using. This came from the dealer mounted the lowest that it can go. I know you can check the cavitation plate to the bottom of boat to check the height and it appears to be equal. I am getting a tremendous amount of spray off the back of the boat from the engine and I feel that this is simply mounted too low and creating unnecessary drag. I know the Hewes hull's are a little different than the average boat and was looking to see if anyone out there has the same boat and what hole do they have it mounted on. Any information you could provide would be appreciated.

    Shark Eyes Install

I finished installing the new trolling motor and now I need to take care of the nav lights that i had to remove. I purchased some led shark eyes and need your help with the install. I'm a little hesitant to cut a hole in the side of the boat. How should I go about it and what tools should I use. What should I be careful of and expect? 4200 even thought the lights have a rubber gasket?

    Finally pulled the trigger

After a year of debating what to do with regards to my guide business and going back and forth over what boat to buy, this weekend I pulled the trigger on a 2003 RF 18 with an '08 F115 with 200 hours on it. Purchased from a very nice guy, 2nd owner, garage kept in Jacksonville. It has recessed trim tabs, 5 month old Simrad GO7 XSE, stereo, new prop, gorgeous Sea Foam green and in very good shape with a few minor blemishes. Splashing her tomorrow in the Crystal Coast, NC to chase winter reds for the next 2-3 days with a close friend. As for what I need to do to the boat here is the list... -Buff and wax to remove dark staining. -Replace the older Minn Kota trolling motor with an i-pilot. -Reattach the poling platform. The previous owner unbolted it on the top side and had the back brackets cut so the boat could fit in his garage. I'll have to find someone who can do the welding. -Replace the Yamaha gauges. They are cracked and faded and look like hell. Can barely read them. Previous owner suggested using the Simrad and get a cable to hook to the motor for all of the typical info used on the gauges. Might be cheaper -Replace the intake seal for the live well. -Replace the trailer bunks. -Rewire trailer. -Add a 4th battery. -Replace the old carpet under the gunnels with Sea Dek or similar substitute. I was wondering if anyone had done this prior? I think the faux teak would look great with the sea foam green hull. I'd also consider putting some blue LED lighting under there. Any tips would be much appreciated if anyone has done anything like this. -Name her! I'll be registering the boat in Virginia and running trips in the Chesapeake Bay as well as some in NC. I perused the forum a lot the past week and gained a lot of information from previous discussions, so thank you all for the advice. I will keep you updated on progress on the updates I will be making. If anyone has any tips / suggestions on anything else I should consider, I would love to hear them. Thanks! -Capt. Chris

    Lappys and jack plates

Hello all, I’m new to the forum but not new to Hewes boats. I have a 2000 Redfisher 18 (the last of the ole’ Lappys) with a Yamaha 130 2 stroker. I see some discussion on here about jack plates and the issues with these boats.. props blowing out, loss of performance, etc. I have a friend that has worked for Maverick Boat Co at the factory in Ft Pierce for nearly 20 years now (it’s possible he even helped build mine) and he discourages me from installing one on this hull because of the setback and possible performance issues. I do trust his knowledge and expertise as he knows these boats well, but I would like to get some other opinions. The main reason I would like one is simply to idle through shallow water more efficiently. Is there anyone on here with an old Lappy, similar to the 2000 model, with the same outboard (115 hp or 130 hp 2 stroke) that has success with a hydraulic jack plate with minimal issues as mentioned? Please lend me your thoughts. Thanks Dan
  8. 2001 Hewes 18 Bonefisher Very Clean and in great condition. '01 was the last year they made the lappy model bonefisher, I believe... Original Deep Blue gelcoat in amazing shape. Boat is turn-key and ready to go. Just used it for a week in the Keys in May. Yamaha 115, V4 2001. Great shape, has never missed a beat. Serviced every year. All new internal and external anodes/zincs and plugs (5/18). 494 hours on motor. Trailer is 2017 Marine Master Trailer, custom made for this boat 2 years ago at the factory. This thing is in perfect shape. -HDS 7 Gen 2 touch GPS chartplotter. -24V Motorguide Xi5 wireless trolling motor with GPS. (new Deka batteries in 2018) Rear trolling motor mount -New OceanGrip flooring (March '19) similar to SeaDek, this stuff is amazing. 10. ***PRICE REDUCED*** After much deliberation I have decided to part ways with this unique fishing machine. I have not had the time to use her like I used to so I figured I’d see if there’s anyone in the market. If you know your boats you know the rarity of a 21 Master Angler... couple that with a low hour 4-stroke, custom aluminum trailer, and custom tower and you have a truly one of a kind platform to chase Tarpon on the beach or beat the bushes for Redfish. 2003 Maverick 21 Master Angler 2007 Yamaha 225F w/ 500 hours 2012 Owens and Sons Aluminum Trailer Custom made tower by Quality T-Tops 3 custom plumped live-wells all running on Rule 1100’s Waterproof AM/FM/Aux Radio with 4 speakers Plenty of storage Gell cell deep cycle batteries with dual battery switch Garmin color GPS/Bottom machine with dual-frequency transducer Locking built in rod storage 4-blade stainless steel prop Lenco trim tabs Sea-Star hydraulic steering Rule Mate 1100 GPH automatic bilge pump Brand new upholstery The motor only has 500 hours on it and has been meticulously maintained! Just had it in the shop and have a full diagnostic report to show. 62% of the hours have been below 1,000 RPM... she has been babied! The trailer is a custom aluminum slide-on made by Owens and Sons out of St. Petersburg. It has heavy duty i-beams, tandem torsion axels, and alloy wheels with spare tire mount. I had the axles LineX’d before they were installed to prevent them from rusting! These trailers are custom made to order and top of the line quality! The boat has spent it’s life in Tampa Bay. It was custom ordered from Maverick with no poling platform and an unrigged center console. It was then fitted with a custom made half tower from Quality T-Tops. All three live-wells have been custom rigged with Rule 1100’s, new plumbing, upgraded strainers, modified overflows, and improved inflows for a total of 110 gallons of live-wells! The sea chest has been upgraded to include the stainless steel pick-up grate. The rear access hatch was upgraded to allow much easier access to the bilge than factory. She is 100% turn-key and ready to be fished! Everything is fully functional: all the lights and pumps work. Will throw in all required safety gear so you’re ready to go! She could be yours for $35,000 $30,000 Located in Tampa FL. Call or text Kevin 813-951-7070 Title in hand. Evenings are the best time to call. If I don’t answer, leave a voicemail and I’ll be sure to call you back ASAP

In search of a Poling Platform

I'm in search of a poling platform for the Redfisher I recently bought. It's a 1992 18'. I would like to have an original style. Don't really care the condition. I'll clean it up and probably Rino line it. Let me know what you got or maybe you can point me in the right direction.
  13. Here you go guys. Came with the Redfisher i just bought. Enjoy
  14. Hey everyone, looking for a 19' lappy non tunnel version. If anyone has any leads please let me know. I am not interested in the 18' models or light tackles...just the 19's. Thanks for your help!
  15. I'm a current owner of a 86 Hewes Stalker looking to jump hulls into a Redfisher or similar. My boat has a good running newer Yamaha 2 stroke 90 that I wouldn't mind moving to a new boat since most powered boats are out of my price range right now. I'm a little torn between putting the money into my boat or just going for something that already has the better storage and layout my wife would prefer for non-fishing days. I know a 90 would be under-powered on an 18 but we live in an almost exclusively idle area, as long as I can get up on plane, I'm not in a hurry. Just wanted to see what was out there. It looks like I misses an 18 Ft Redfisher a few months ago that would have fit the bill.
  16. Buddy is looking at a 2004 with Yamaha 115. Looks to be in good shape but will be taking a closer look. Has not been run much over past several years. What should he look for and what’s it likely to be worth? Boat motor and trailer.

  22. Hi, My son and I are looking for a flats boat to fly fish S Florida from the Keys to Flamingo. We plan to use the pole and fish flats as well as some mangroves. We are looking at the Hewes Bonefisher 16 compared to the Maverick 17 ft Master Angler. We prefer a four stroke 90-115HP and are budgeting 12-18k so we know either of these will be a few years old. We are ok with a boat that needs some finishing touches, new batteries or electronics. Our main question right now is between the Bonefisher 16 and the MA 17...any thoughts on which of these might be the better boat? We know there are probably price differences and the MA will likely be more...just wondering if it would be worth the extra cost. We are also looking at Redfishers. Thanks for any observations or suggestions. DAW

    1999 18' Hewes Redfisher
