Gasoline Fumes

Recommended Posts

First off love this forum and how everyone chimes in giving great feedback. Question about our boat 2002 2200V. I know from the previous owner he said that they gasoline tank is not aluminum. It was something else that was offered during that time period. We have checked for leaks but haven't seen anything. Im curious if these tanks "breathe" or something to that effect. As a precaution we open up the rigging compartment to air out the fumes. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Randy

I have a 2001 and mine has a hint of a gas odor all the time.  Previous owner had it checked for a fuel leak a couple of times..  If I keep my rod lockers open under the cover it seems to be fine.

Yes, the plastic tanks breathes.  So a little gas smell is normal when the hatches are closed.

But alway keep an eye out for a gas leak.

Make sure there is no gas in blige. My fill hose deteriorated and gas was leaking into bilge when filling up. Thought it was the usual permeation until I drained bilge water into bucket. Changing out hose was no easy feat!

Plastic tanks will always give off a gas odor.  Big difference between odor and fumes.  Small price to pay for a tank that will probably last the lifetime of the boat I think.
