palmetto1
Hows the tarpon fishing in the Everglades mid-April? Recommendation on places to stay with wife and guides? Short 2-day trip as we may be in Ft Lauderdale for a conference.

palmetto1
Thanks. Is there anywhere decent to stay in Everglades City with your wife? I'm guessing if I give her a choice between the Keys and EC, its a no brainer for her.
hawg
If you stay in the Islamorada area, it's only about a 30 minute boat trip (seas permitting) up to Flamingo, should you wish to try it there. I see a lot of guides heading up there from the Keys when I'm fishing the general area south of Flamingo.
Donh
Again it might depend on the type of fishing you want to do. Many of the guides mentioned earlier don’t fly fish for example. If you’re looking for laid up tarpon in the back bays the bigger boats might not be an option. Question the guides, etc. Some of them are booked way in advance as the tarpon fishing picks up. dh
rubble
I was fishing with a tarpon fly guide in April a few years ago. He was kind of teamed up with a few other HB guides that are tarpon fly specialists. I wanted to fish for tarpon on fly but couldnt handle the long stick in a manner needed to get a hookup so we jigged for reds but we had lunch with Jose Wejebe who was fishing with ine of my guides buddies. We saw tarpon layed up all over the place just minutes from Choko. They were stacked all over a few flats. This was the day before Jose’s crash so that can give you a date reference. These arent Mav guys but they are good glades fishermen. Google the “High in the Lowlands video and you’ll see some of these guides at work.
