2012 Hinchinbrook Tournament

Recommended Posts

Well the Tournament has come and gone and the Hewes boats faired well in the windy and wet conditions.

There was 501 Barras caught, measured, photographed and released and lots of other by-catch as well.

There were four Hewes boats there this year with my 16 Redfisher, Snelly's 18 Redfisher, Parkesy's 16 Bonefisher and Matho's 19 Redfisher amongst the 54 boats with two anglers fishing each boat. The best result for the MPH family out of the four was 5th place for my Redfisher 16 which also included my mate Ben's 6th place overall in the individual catergory and his Champion Fly Angler win with Snelly taking out Champion Runner Up in the Fly catergory as well.

The shotgun start was ordinary, cold, wet and we opted for a mask while others had all types of headwear.

The most metorius catch was a big Spaniard (Spanish Mackeral - King) which was caught on a baitcaster and lure in the middle of the channel down deep after the guys marked some good arches on the sounder - It almost spooled them on the 30 lb braid reel and they weren't sure what it was.

The biggest barra was over the magic 1 meter mark and was caught by a local club member who is wheel chair bound but fishes the Tournament every year and there is a couple of pictures of his trophy fish. They caught it trolling out of the Nitro along the island side of the channel in very ordinary conditions.

Great comp as usual.

Here are some pictures from the event.
