FlatsBRG Posted August 17, 2017 Report Share Posted August 17, 2017 I purchased a 2002 Hewes Redfisher 18 that needs some fiberglass work. The boat repair shop is asking me if this is a common problem and since this is the first Hewes I have owned and in the Atlanta Georgia area I do not see many Hewes Flats boats , I do not know. Does this area of the seat support crack commonly or is this a rare happening? If it is not a common problem I will repair it back to its original design but if it is likely to happen again I plan on having the repair shop build in some new support. Coto Posted August 17, 2017 Report Share Posted August 17, 2017 Yes it's common. I had it happen on my 02 and fixed it a couple of times but it would always come back. Finally Bob Hewes Boats put in an aluminum L bracket along the length for support. It never happened again after that. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Could you send me a private message with a photo showing the aluminum L Bracket that worked for you? Was it full length left to right and supported on each end or supported in the middle too? Drummer Posted August 18, 2017 Report Share Posted August 18, 2017 I have the same issue on my 2000 LT18. Also, the seat is cracking in the middle and beginning to sag a bit. Jlrockjr Posted August 25, 2017 Report Share Posted August 25, 2017 My 04 redfisher 16 has the same crack. Mine isn't quite as bad as yours but not something I've really worried about. FlatsBRG Posted August 31, 2017 Author Report Share Posted August 31, 2017 I do not know what name brand gasket that is. The boat has 280 hours on it and I think the gaskets are original from 2002.
