Alex6
removed the stringers and replacing them with foam filled stringers from prisma composite preform. Also going to be using honeycomb panels for the deck. Not using much wood just fibergl*** covered marine ply wood for cross members to bolt on the starboard. 18 lappy
hmm i wonder why the strakes dont go all the way down the side.. The rear live wells are original they were definitely not added later. I don't know why the strakes don't go all the way to the end, but that is how the older Hewes used to be made. 80 bonefisher
My son and I are restoring a 1980 Hewes Bonefisher 2. Going to replace the stringers but not sure whether to use wood or foam/composite. Anyone have any suggestions on what way to go? Alex6, did you finish yours yet?
HarleyG8r
80 Bonefisher, Looks like you bought the one that was at Maximum Outboard for a while. Just saw it at the marine flea market in Pompano two weeks ago. I had looked at it before I bought my 93 Redfisher 18 about a year ago. I'm doing a lot of work to mine, although not nearly as in depth as what you're getting into. Mostly patching holes, rewiring and refinishing. If you're in/near Pompano, I'd be happy to share what (little) I know, and see how your project is coming. Also can show you what I've done to mine so far. 80 bonefisher
That's where we got it. Knew it was a project but would be a great boat when done. Great Father and Son project. Should have it stripped down to the hull by the weekend. We are planning to do a total restore with a 115 e-tec.

Alex6
i have not got a price yet but im using the foam filled stringers from www.preforms.com, they do the new hewes boat stringers now, if you call them and tell them what you are doing they will ask some questions and ask for some pics, then they will tell you exactly what you need. and honeycomb sheet from Joe's Auto Marine Supply Fort Lauderdale Florida im using no wood so this project wont have to be done again
