FunFlatsFishing
On my 22 pathfinder the engine wouldn't start (or attempt to) until I turned the key switch a few times and when it did start it wouldn't turn off until multiple attempts or by pulling the kill switch. Is this a symptom of the key switch going bad? The engine is a 2006 Yamaha F150. If it is, is it a pretty easy replacement? Plug and play?
SCFD rtrd.
Not an expert, but my bet is the key switch is the problem. Did you try spraying the mechanism with Corrosion-X. I would imagine the key switch has tumblers just like the lock on your front door. They require a little lubrication occasionally.
FunFlatsFishing
Would WD40 work?
SCFD rtrd.
If lack of lubrication is the problem, WD-40 would probably work. But a quality product like Corrosion-X should be on every boat owners work bench. Let us know if it works.
Lap it Up
Yamaha key switches do go bad. Yes it is plug and play butt connectors unless someone has been in there messing with factory wiring.

I replaced mine on my 2005 after 6 years....it's plug and play...but, they are not cheap regarding WD40...DON'T USE IT ON KEY SWITCHES ....according to my Yamaha dealer...it eats away the plastic covering.....
