poonman
Looking at purchasing an 18' MA, how easy is to pole around?
FLDXT
It's doable but it will put hair on your chest. I have a 17 so I'm ***uming it would be a tick more difficult in the 18.
wayne
You have to factor in where you are going to pole also... Big boats aren't that bad on hard bottom with no current... if you fish alot of muddy areas or where there is a big current, smaller boats shine in those areas.. Flireman
Use the wind as your buddy. I have a MA17.
jason p
If you've never pushed a HPX around it will be fine
redzone1
Put a full size truck in neutral, get in the bed of it with a push pole and pole it down your driveway...that's what it will be like with wind, current, and mud bottom
triplec
:content: What Skip (Redzone) said!
FLDXT
Yep, Redzone is right on. But we'll worth it when you are running in the nasty stuff.
jason p
Buy a boat for what you do 80% of the time. If you want to pole look for a HPX. It's not a MA as far as riding in the rough stuff (no other flats boat really is in my opinion) but they are pretty impressive, especially if you can stay mostly perpendicular to the waves. whichwaysup
Okay, so . . . what am I missing here? How much poling will you actually be doing in KY? Agree on all the comments above, though. It is definitely do-able if you don't have to do it very much. Put yourself on a big flat with the wind in the wrong direction, and you will definitely learn to appreciate how much boat that 18 footer is. On a short trip, though, it's fun. bdsnook
 Wait a minute...I pole my 21....it's is generally no fun...but I do it when I am real shallow...and the MinnKota just slings mud! Go for it...consider it exercise....Hahahaha
