Fishing Bald Point/Alligator Point/Dog Island

Recommended Posts

Hi All -

Looking to take some friends out fishing. Have a house rented in July and would love to know if anyone has some ideas of good fly fishing spots for myself and friends. I’ll be cruising the beach and around dog island for some tarpon

The friends are more conventional gear fishing and I’d like to put them on some fish. And ideas would be appreciated! Thank you all in advance!

Years ago, tarpon would get stacked up in Mud Cove at Alligator Point, along with the big sharks. Water clarity is horrible there, so I'm not sure about fly fishing

The south side of Lanark reef is a go to spot for tarpon, you can’t miss it for the staked off guides. And yes ,they are very territorial. There are plenty reefs just off Dog Island if you’re interested in bottom fish’n. Go to Franklin County reefs for a list . Good luck.

Thank you so much! Yea I do some tarpon on the Fly there around Lanark Reef and the beaches of Alligator Point. Just wanted to put the crew on some other easy fishing. Do you know of any areas for some reds around dog island? I always here talk of that but can never seem to find the spots. Much appreciated!

The mouth of the harbor on east side of Dog Island, fish the flats below the dunes, either side for reds. The flats at ballast cove, watch your tides, the ballast rocks hardly ever exposed. East pass is still holding some bulls, warning - don’t take a knife to a gun fight.

east of marine lab have always held some reds. If you see green 18.5 MA, give me a shout.

good luck, Don
