    Possible Structural Damage

Lot of reading but you will have more information to make an informed decision.

    What will clean this up?

Try goof off rust stain remover. Use gloves, put it on a rag and soak the plate and wipe off, it may take a few times but it should shine right up and then Flitz it or Sharkhide it.
  3. If woulda just kept the center console closed, none of this would be happening right now!

    What is my Hewes worth?

    What is my Hewes worth?

Again, there are a lot of variables but for older used boats 15 - 20+ years old no longer made, that is what I've seen, again just an observation. The 24 came out in 2011 so it would not fall into this category. Another factor would be common sense! With the accessories he has and does not have, and again the condition upping the price to $1,250 a foot would put him at $26,250. He can ask whatever he wants, he is only going to get want people are willing to spend on a 18 year old boat.

    What is my Hewes worth?

This may or may not make sense but from what I have been seeing with just about every big name brand USED boat, it averages out to about $1,000 a foot. Of course as mentioned it depends on condition, original gel coat, bottom paint, accessories, engine age is a big one, etc. can bring the price per foot up OR down from $50 up to a couple hundred. Just an observation of mine, and it would put your boat at $21,000 right in the middle of Srfrdave's estimate. Original boat & motor.

    Giant Blue Fin Tuna

So my buddy from Miami went on a charter out of Boston for some of the big blue fin. First day nothing, second day hook up with live herring for bait. Fighting it for 2-1/2 hours, the whole time the mate is telling them "let run" "no tension on the line" "take it easy" "watch your drag" etc. After all this time, and my buddy is a very experienced fisherman, captain say's let my mate take it from here. The Tuna was now only 25 feet from the boat, estimated at 500-600 pounds and is doing the "I give up circle"! So after barking orders at my buddy the whole time the first mate grabs the leader and wraps it, well the Tuna had one last run and guess what.....the hook pulled because the first mate did not follow his own advice! Needless to say my buddy was not happy because his third of the prize would have paid for the whole trip!

18 ft Lappy - Purchase and Restoration

Agreed, buying a 20 plus year old boat is a crap shoot! My non MBG bay boat I bought started leaking after 1 year. However the manufacturer made it so the entire center console along with a portion of the deck was removable as one piece. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst! If you do have to replace, just make the corrections and make it better than it was, document it and if you ever sell it that documentation will add value to the boat. Heck, if it makes you feel better, my buddy just sold his boat that is notorious for rotting gas tanks and he never replaced it and between the non MBG boat (starts with a "C" and ends with "der") and a new motor he got $43,000 for it and it was 20+ years old and the buyer new about the tank issues with the boats.

    Boarding/swim ladder

99.9% of the time I need the ladder to get out, not in, I jump in so I would be deploying from the water. As well, growing up in South Florida any boat that had a ladder platform it seconded as a seat while taking a break from snorkling/diving and water sports in general. I would prefer it on the bottom, nonetheless though it is a nice looking piece!

Stained Deck and No Supper Either

Try Goof Off Rust Stain Remover sold at all the big block home suppliers. Life may just come a bit easier. I'm with Becky on this one though, it's a dang Pecan!

    Hesser, where are you located?

Just make sure you can store enough gasoline for a generator that big. I am looking at the same but duel fuel; gas/natural gas since I have it plumbed to the house already.

    1974 Hewes Marlin

Think about it, a lapstrake 21 foot flats boat??? Same hull as redfisher & bonefisher just longer and I believe two lapstrakes taller.

    1974 Hewes Marlin

You can do what you want on the inside, it is the hull that is the favorite. Classic guys, keep posting!

1996 BF18 lappy maiden voyage (for me)

The E-ted 115 is a good motor and the 4 blade Rogue is a nice prop and really woke up my Redfisher. Congratulations and keep us posted as you make these changes.

88 Bob Hewes Bonefisher II Ground up- Rebuild

WOW! You got a project ahead of you! I think it might be easier to break into BassProShops in Miami and just steal the one the have on display! Kidding aside, good luck and keep us up to date on the build, we love this stuff, especially the finished project! I actually have those kevlar stickers that came on the boat, they are currently stuck to something else but if you want to have them replicated let me know.

Questions about loading 26 on trailer.

I just remembered that Pathfinder trailers typically come with forward centering bunks that are carpeted. These will definitely stop you or slow you down quite a bit when trying to load it, especially if they are not wet. It looks like that is what you have. I have always used the centering PVC "V's" and the boat always glides right up to the stop.

Questions about loading 26 on trailer.

No trailer is perfect from factory/shop set up. I bought watermans old trailer and made it fit my boat and it fits like a glove! These were not the same boats by far. Remember lower in the back and higher in the front for dealing with shallow ramps. Seems like you may be basing you're findings on the same ramp. If you figure out how to load a boat perfectly every time at every ramp, from Pensacola to Key West, please let us know!

Best motor for a Redfisher 18 Lappy

Then there Happy Lappy, disregard my post. You are going the right route. I mounted mine right to the block, just under the VRO is a plug and that port pulses off of engine vacuum. I also only ran one pump for the v-4.
  24. MuddyBottomBluz

Best motor for a Redfisher 18 Lappy

If it is a crossflow motor you would be better off going with a block mounted fuel pump and eliminate the VRO and just mix your gas & oil. To repair one of those is $15 VS $400 for a new VRO. I also believe they can be mounted on a loop charged motor, just need to clarify.
