ENP Boater Permit
Big Dave replied to topic's conocean in Florida - Flamingo & Everglades National Park
Thanks, Dave. This was the buzz with all my Choko neighbors the past week I was down there (fishing was excellent Dec26-31!). The course is still free as of this morning. Can anyone find the NPS link that states the new permit requirement, etc?- 86 replies

1. I'm not sure how you're getting water in the livewell when the valve is closed IF the livewell drain hole is plugged. 2. I've always installed my drain plugs from the outside of the hull with a bronze/rubber plug. 3. Your battery switch might be wired incorrectly. Hope this helps!

Really nice rig, it shouldn’t last long.

Good points wana, gee & hurricane 👍🏻 If you report this hull issue to your insurer then they may issue notice of cancellation due to unseaworthiness OR they may limit coverage until the boat has been repaired & a surveyor confirms that the repairs have been completed to standard marine practice. Most boat policies exclude wear & tear, gradual deterioration, latent & manufacturers defect so since there was no “occurrence” (ie. you didn’t hit anything), I’m not sure your policy will respond. As wana said, its all glass & gel. No big deal. Fix her up right, enjoy or sell it. I’d have MBC fix it if I had to make the decision.

In MBG's defense, they're so busy with today's production that they don't have a lot of time to go back into their MA archives and find the info. The MA models have been extinct for over a decade and I doubt they will be resurrected any time soon so let's give them a break! Any qualified repairer should know the best course of action to fix whichwaysup's MA.
-
That's how we would do it at Merritt's.
-
It matters not why MBC did what they did back then. The MA line has been extinct for quite some time. Kind of like the Gremlin and/or Pinto models of the past. We can pontificate for days about those type of things. Now that you know there's a void between the stringer and the transom the only thing that matters is that your boat is fixed to be good as new!
-
The stringers in my 1995 17' MA did not attach to the transom. Crazy!! What's even crazier is that we all didn't hear about more stringer failures & hull cracks in the MA line.

There goes Don, showing off again! -
Wait....what kind of mishap? Did the tower hit the top of the garage header??
-
Yes, it does appear like that area has been repaired in the past. Hopefully it's just cosmetic gel coat.
-
What Coto said. Plus, don't forget about all the vibration while towing....especially on the highway.

Good stuff! Sorry for not snapping & posting more pics, guys. It's hard to keep track of all the awesome Choko sunrises, moonrises, sunsets & moonsets I see in a year! I'll try to remember to snap & post some pics when I'm back down there next Sunday - Friday. Fishing was nothing short of great the past 6 days! Goin back to the big city for a few days now. Hope ya'll had a nice Easter. 🙏🏻🐰🍬

Doubtful that you'll be disappointed. Tell him that Paul @ Merritt's says hello! -
Skiff Shop - Tom Gordon Review

I've known Tom Gordon for 15 years. Top notch small vessel builder, refitter & fiberglass craftsman. -
Then you need to fish it asap!! I can meet you there on Thursday morn 🙂

Snapped this yesterday. It's one of my favorite spots to watch the sun come up in the ENP & only a few miles from my fish camp in Choko.

Fire Extinguisher Recall, Could Be on your Boat
MuddyBottomBluz replied to topic's conocean in General Forum
This topic is HIGHLY important & should be permanently pinned to the 1st page of General Forum by the mod. Somewhat friendly ranger did a safety check on my boat last weekend in the ENP and my fire ext was one of the recalled models. He told me to replace it ASAP to avoid being one of the unlucky people that had fire ext failures in a time of need. -
Jason....if you had the ability to connect a natural gas line easily at your home and avoid having to worry about tank maintenance or gas delivery, would you still lean towards the diesel generator or would you go with a natural gas generator? Just wondering what you think & why, thanks!
-
Jason, is this the model you have?: http://www.centralmainediesel.com/order/Isuzu-15000-Watt-Diesel-Generator.asp?page=1500TS&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpP6kwPnK1gIVBVqGCh1HBQqTEAQYASABEgIt5vD_BwE Spec says 1.6L engine.... Where do you store the unit when not in use or do you have it mounted in a permanent enclosure on the side of your home? Did you add a breaker to your main power panel to link to the generator or is yours wired to automatically turn on when the power goes out?? I like the diesel generator idea a lot more than a gas generator but I can tell you that there was NO diesel fuel available anywhere near Pompano after Irma. My neighbors w/diesel trucks were driving around their wives rice rockets until power was restored in our area & diesel became available.
