Quick update. The battery is toast. The sticker on the side says “F0” and after looking online it appears that means it was manufactured in June of 2010. Now I am in the market for a good starting battery for my 2017 Suzuki 115. Can anyone with a similar engine let me know what they use as far as manufacture and size? It is imperative to use a strictly starting battery or will a dual purpose work? Thank you

The seavolt West Marine starting battery I have in the boat for the past two years seemed to work good with the new Suzuki until it is now dead. It is a group 24 and meets all the criteria you mentioned above minus the RC. It is only 120. Are there any group 24 batteries you know of that meet the criteria or would you switch to a group 27. If possible, I’d like to not add anymore weight on the boat with a heavier battery. thank you for the feedback

Do you guys prefer AGMs for starting/cranking batteries?
-
Yeah it’s a west marine group 24 maintenance free starting battery. If it needs replacing, what kind of starting battery do you guys recommend. I’d prefer a maintenance free AGM one

Thanks for the clarification. I thought I read online 9.5 volts was considered a “dead” battery but i must have misinterpreted it and it might mean “not salvageable” It’s at least 4 years old (the time since I’ve had the boat) . I do not know when the previous owner bought the battery but it might finally be dead for good and time to replace , but I’ll get it checked out. Thanks for all the advice guys

Quick update, I out a voltmeter on the battery terminals and it showed over 11 volts so the battery appears good. Didn’t have time to check the connections to the perko switch yet. Going to unscrew the switch from the boat and check the wire connections that attach to the switch. will update I as do it.

Off topic....... Costa Rica car rentals
Whiskeytrain replied to Whiskeytrain's topic in General Forum
Thanks guys. I have read good things about VAMOS rental Company. Anyone have any personal experience? -
Going down to Costa Rica at the end of April and seeking advice about car rentals. Many sources online suggest the insurance is more than the actual rental it self. Can anyone please give some advice on what they recommend based on their past experiences with car rentals in Costa Rica. What insurance policy did you and what rental company did you use. We will be flying into San Jose airport and we need a 4x4 vehicle. This will be our first time there thank you for any help hoping some forum members have experience with this

Lake Okeechobee crappie fishing questions
Whiskeytrain replied to Whiskeytrain's topic in Florida - Southeast
I appreciate the info! Would like to bass fish it as well. Usually hit up the lox refuge or holiday park -
hey guys, I’ve never fished for crappie or even on Lake Okeechobee for that matter despite living in Broward County for most of my life. Looking to try a fishery. I have an 18ft hewes flats boat and was looking for a general starting point for Lake Okeechobee. Not looking for any hot spots, just a little guidance. What boat Ramps would be a good starting point? Are there areas to avoid in a flats boat due to thick grass or hazards? Do you guys recommend fishing live minnow around the grass? Thanks for any info.

I tried my hardest to find my volt meter and have not found it, so no I have not tested it yet. I purchased another volt meter and waiting for it to arrive. Yes, I have only left the switch at 1+2 for a second to press the trim and tilt, and immediately put it back to 1and it works no problem. Maybe I’ll take a quick video because I know it is a little hard to understand in writing. Next step is volt meter and check the comtacts acts and switch for corrosion. updates to come

Thank you for all the replies. I will check the contacts for corrosion and let you guys know

After further review, I can hear a clicking sound when I try to trim/tilt the engine after putting the battery switch on number one after sitting for some time. Once I put the switch to ALL for a second and click up on the trim and switch back to battery 1, it works fine for some reason. I’m going to have to test the cranking battery. It came with the boat when i bought it 4 years ago and I believe it was not new at that time so it’s probably time to replace it. I’ll have to check it out.
